A VIP-pass under the skin?? (04/06/2004 -- tekst: Nicolas Deckmyn)
bajaclub_rotterdam Not a joke: a club offers to put its electronic membercard-chip under your skin.
This will probably be the identity card of the future... but do we really want it?

The customers of the Baja Beach club in Rotterdam can access and pay with a subcutaneous chip by the end of June. electronic_chip_implantation The chip has the size of a rice grain and is implemented invisibly under the skin of the arm (like the electronic-chip for the dogs, but for them it's in the neck, just under the ear).

Baja Beach club is indeed the first discotheque in the world to use that kind of identification and billing system... but it's also the first club in the world to aim at the physical integrity of the customers... this is as well cyberfun as it is also very scary (Who said "1984", "Brazil" or "Equilibrium"?). Some say it's Star-Trek fun... some others say "bill gates will make you dance, and that's just the end of freedom".

The Spanish club Baja in Barcelona started to implantate the chips since March 2004. Many of their vip's already have the chip in the left arm, and about 20 customers stand on a waiting list.
"We have a special zone at Baja beach Club where only VIPs are allowed, which has various exclusive services for these members" says Conrad Chase, the club director. "We are the first discotheque in the world to offer the VIP VeriChip. Using an integrated microchip, our VIPs can identify themselves and pay for their food and drinks without the need for any kind of document."
Make your mind, but we think it's scary. People are no dogs or cows.

Kiosque Agenda Deadline for July AND August ! (03/06/2004 -- tekst: Nicolas)

Organisers, deejays, club managers... don't forget that the deadline for the next Kiosque magazine of July & August for Brussels is 11 June. Be sure to add your parties to the Noctis agenda before that date or i won't be able to sort it for the Kiosque (out on 25 June)... that'd be sad.

How do we select the parties from Noctis for the Kiosque magazine:
1) it has to be a special party or to have guests.
2) A residency will be sometimes announced once in a month if relevant (as Marko Sunday or Dali's Reggae Thursday).
3) The 'normal' clubs are listed in Kiosque in a regular board we publish two or three times per year, so it's no need to add every normal Saturday.
4) For Noctis we relay all night infos for all the country, but for Kiosque it's 70% for Brussels and 30% Antwerpen, Gent, Liège, ...
5) of course, the last decisions always come to the left space available... means that if there's too few space left on the pages, the editors will cut in the agenda to make it fit... and then it's usually based on the size of the event. But then it's not my call anymore. :-)

Anyway, thanks to all to make this website be a nightlife reference. 34.000 unique visitors in March 2004 ... now that's partying!

Noctis in Out Soon magazine (31/05/2004 -- tekst: Nicolas Deckmyn)
Thanks to you all who wrote to Out Soon, the main Belgian free magazine for clubbers, to declare your trust in our work... thus Noctis has been selected to show up with 3 other nightlife related websites in this May-June issue #124 of Out Soon (with Miss Kitten on the cover). Since then, Noctis.com reaches 34.000 monthly visitors, and still has a flying cow in the chatroom. By the way, thanks to Out Soon too. Welcome to the newcomers and thanks to the regulars! "With faith and passion in the night."

Glimmer Twins shine at Cannes (22/05/2004 -- tekst: The A.L.)
Although the pair are increasingly busy on the compilation front, with releases for Culture Club and Eskimo, The Glimmer Twins were invited to Cannes for the second year running to provide the entertainment for 'Stella Artois Screen'. in_Cannes-Mo_from_Glimmer_Twins
Each year the beer brand invites over 200 guests for a stay on luxury yachts and perhaps the best parties on the Croisette (the Carlton Beach, to be precise).

TheTwins played three times, including a memorable night aboard the yacht with views across Cannes. The nearby Onassis yacht sent over a speedboat to see what the noise was all about. But they weren't on the guestlist. People that were on the list at other times include Dennis Quaid, David Carradine, Sean Young, China's stunning Li Xing, "Kontroll" director Nimrod Antal and the bosses of the major studios.

The Glimmer Twins will be back at the Culture Club on May 31 and June 7, followed by dates in the Netherlands, France and the UK

Junior Jack & Kid Creme in Ibiza all summer!
+ new video
(20/05/2004 -- tekst: Nicolas)
Our beloved Belgian House ambassador duet is standing in Ibiza this year again, as it did last year already at El Divino and Pacha. Kid Creme and Junior Jack will spin their magic plastic on 18 June & 9 July , 6 & 27 August, and 17 September (closing season party) ... all at El Divino 'Defected' parties with Sandy Rivera, Gee, Martin Solveig, Andy Daniells or Jo Miss, and 20 July at Pacha with Darren Emerson, Paul Jackson, Trevor Nelson and many more. We heard about a second residency in Japan for this summer, but nothing's confirmed yet. junior_jack

Not to mention (well, we mention it anyway) that his new Stupidisco video is now ready and will hit all music televisions in a couple of weeks ... guess we'll hear it in a Balearic tone.

Want to see the videoclip? Go on Junior Jack's website and click on the picture!

 Create Your Night Contest Followup?
Ragga Circus big up!
- Update 2 -
(04/05/2004 -- tekst: Nicolas Deckmyn)
We told you about the contest: 25.000 Eur to spend for a Cokelab party, with two concepts chosen out of 800 mails. Those two winners will be selected by public vote. One for the flemishspeaking TV and area, one for the frenchspeaking TV and area. But unfortunately, very few projects specified the music style and the line-up, which is -on our opinion- the most important point of a party ... few but one: The Ragga Circus. That's why we call here to support their project.

As Reggae and Ragga deejays, there should be: Boom A Ranks, Uphill Soundsystem, Heartbeat Soundsystem, Far West Crew, Massive Sound, Jugglin' Discotheque, Bass Culture Soundsystem and the beloved TLP & Dors (Culture Club, Eskimo)

Now this sounds good and wicked! So you can help them by voting.
2 ways to help: one is free, the other is not. The free way is to vote on www.cokelab.be/nl . The paying way is to sms "COKE A" to 3010 (sms is not free).

For sure, the flemishspeaking projects have more creative and fun ambitions in this contest. They selected the Ragga Circus, but also a party based on a giant multiple radio-transmitter giving the music you choose in your headphones, and 'Roadblock': a party on the motorway with the deejays and the lighshow in two big trucks (based on how the Acid House pirates did parties in UK in the early 90's... that's great too, indeed).

The frenchspeaking side selected a giant pinball decoration with 90's music like 2Unlimited (they have a website here ), also a party based on remixed hits in a large cosmic-looking sand field, and a night where everyone has a mission to complete (a joke-murder) and a fun costume... but what about music and deejays? You can view some videos at
http://www.plugtv.be/index.php?action=gen_page&idx=58 (online videos).
You can vote on www.cokelab.be/fr .

The basical idea is great, but we probably expected more. Ragga Circus complies with our expectations, that's why we point at them... but you can make your mind on the Cokelab website. Vote is open until 15 May.

Junior Jack Video - Sunday casting in Brussels (30/04/2004 -- tekst: Nicolas Deckmyn)
Right after 'Da Hype' ... the video of Junior Jack's next EP will be shot this Sunday (2 May) in a stylish hall next to the centre of Brussels.

And... there's a casting for 80's freaks and postrock party heads... because they need a crowd around a ring.

You know, usually those videos are shot in tropical locations, on some beachs or in Ibiza... this time it's an indoor synopsis, so they decided to remain in Brussels. Wanna be part of it? Be fast and call the casting management at: 0475 691862. If you wish to be there, try today, or sleep Sunday. There should be pictures of the scenes on Noctis soon anyway.
